Keep the jar in a cool spot out of direct sunlight while sprouting. Good drainage and regular rinsing (twice daily) reduce the risk of mold. Yield from 1/4 cup seeds is roughly 1.5–2 cups of sprouts; you can scale the seed amount up or down. Store finished sprouts in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use within about 5–7 days. If you prefer, use a mesh sprouting lid designed for mason jars for easier draining. Always use clean equipment and filtered water to lower contamination risk. For recipe ideas, try adding sprouts to salads, sandwiches, smoothies, or bowls.
Place 1/4 cup broccoli sprout seeds into the jar.
Cover the seeds with enough filtered water to fully submerge them and let soak for 8 hours (overnight works well).
After soaking, pour out the soaking water through the lid or cheesecloth.
Fill the jar with fresh filtered water, swirl gently to rinse the seeds, then drain the water thoroughly.
Set the jar on its side or at an angle so excess water can continue to drain and air can circulate (a dish rack or tilted bowl works).
Twice a day for the next 5 days: rinse the sprouts by filling the jar with fresh water, swirl, then drain completely and return the jar to an angled position.
On day 5 (or when sprouts have grown to your liking), give a final thorough drain. The sprouts are great raw—use immediately or store in the fridge.
